The beautiful missions of California
Updated: Jul 8, 2022
Last week we visited the two northernmost missions on the Mission Trail in California, San Rafael and San Francisco de Solano. They are both so beautiful in their unique ways, and I can't wait to visit more. Learn more about the historic missions here: The California Missions - California Missions Foundation. You can plan your own mission pilgrimage with The FalconGuide to California's Missions and Presidios: A Guide To Exploring California's Spanish And Mexican Legacy.
Mission San Rafael Arcangel
The San Rafael mission is an active church with an associated Catholic school. The pink stucco church is very tall and majestic, and the small square in front of the church is a quiet place to sit and contemplate. It doesn't cost anything to visit. There is a gift store that unfortunately has very limited hours, so we weren't able to go in. Home (saintraphael.com)

Mission San Francisco de Solano
The San Francisco de Solano mission is an historic property that features an extensive collection of beautiful watercolor paintings of all the mission churches. The chapel is exquisite, simply decorated in the traditional style with quiet hymns playing constantly, creating an environment of worship and awe. Sonoma Parks » Mission San Francisco Solano
I discovered a wonderful curated Spotify playlist this morning that truly matched the lovely and worshipful mood of the music in the San Francisco mission, you can listen to it here.
I hope you get a chance to visit these beautiful historic missions, they are really special.
