The other day, I walked in my back door at the end of a long day and felt the profoundest joy to be home, the place I love. All of a sudden, I realized that I have been so worried about the future that I have been completely unable to enjoy my present blessings, of which there are so many - family, home, friends, and a thousand other things. And I vowed to stop living like that. NO MORE FEAR.
Fear is the destroyer of everything that is good in life. Fear steals your joy, causes you to rush into judgement and make bad choices, and prevents you from living up to your God-given potential.
Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
God's word gives us every reason not to be afraid:
Don't be afraid of the truth. "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32. Freedom is so much better than being enslaved to falsehood and fake living.
Don't be afraid of your feelings. Whatever you are feeling, no matter how scary and dark it seems to you, you won't upset God by telling him. He already knows. When you tell God what is in your heart, you give him access and the ability to change you from the inside. "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Don't be afraid of other people's feelings. How often are we so afraid of what other people may say or think, that we hold back our own truth? The approval of other people will never be as fulfilling as a life built on integrity and speaking your truth to power. "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." 2 Timothy 1:7
Don't be afraid of the past. The past is over, it's done. You did the best you could with the information you had. Now, you stand forgiven as a new creation in Christ. And if you haven't given your life to Christ, do it and become a new creation in Him. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17
- Don't be afraid of the future. With God on your side, who can stand against you? There is nothing in the future that will catch God by surprise. Live each day in total trust that God loves you and will never leave nor forsake you, because that is His promise to you. "The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
"Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
