Read Philippians Chapter 4
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6
So...why don't you pray about it? I don't mean that as a suggestion, I mean it as an honest question. If you're troubled about ANYTHING at all, why do you not pray about it before:
and most importantly, trying to solve the problem in your own power.
It's a rhetorical question. Daily life is an unending onslaught of problems, some comically small and some tragically huge. "Man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upwards," Job's friend Eliphaz observed. "In this world you will have trouble," Jesus tells us, "But take heart, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
As believers, we know this intellectually, and yet we have a hard time believing that trouble and disappointments are not the exception, they are the norm. So we fight and wail and complain and wonder "why me Lord?" Why not you?
Graham Cooke says "why?" is a question that will not be answered this side of heaven. The questions we should ask are "what does this mean for me, and what should I do?" And the only way to find out the answer to those questions is to pray.
Our response to every problem, every crisis (whether big or small), every disappointment, every setback should be to pray.
- When you are hurt, seek God's comfort and solace.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction." 2 Corinthians 1:3
- When you don't know what to do, seek God's wisdom.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." James 1:5
- When you are afraid, seek God's strength.
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10
- When you are in despair, seek God's encouragement.
"Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved." Psalm 55:22
- When you feel worthless, seek God's value for you.
"Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows." Luke 12:7
God promises "never to leave nor forsake us." (Deuteronomy 31:6) This is the promise of the almighty and everlasting God, our Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer, and Provider, who loves us with an everlasting love. He has the answer to every problem we will ever face, and He himself is our peace.
